BWS is pleased to have Glen Kessler, an internationally collected and awarded artist as well as the founder of The Compass Atelier in Rockville, MD.

Kessler has a MFA from New York Academy of Art and a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. His works have graced the cover of ‘Professional Artist Magazine’ and in ‘The Artists' Magazine’ among other publications.

He has work in the public collections of Prince Charles, Amazon Web Services, Ford's Theater, Capital One Bank, Dominion Bank, as well as hundreds of private collections around the world. He is a 2-time recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Grant for Outstanding Figurative Art, a Prince of Wales Fellow, and a Maryland State Arts Council Grant awardee.

He is also a life-long teacher, having taught at Maryland Institute College of Art, George Washington University, George Mason University, and others.

In 2013 he founded The Compass Atelier in Rockville, MD in order to teach a cohesive curriculum of artistic study of his own design. The school and its unique curriculum are proving to be a game-changer taking students, many of whom had little to no prior experience, to a professional practice in just 3 years of part-time study. Recent graduates have gone on to earn top prizes, regularly sell their work, and gain gallery representation.

In this one day workshop we’ll focus on

"Color Theory Made Clear"

This workshop will make color theory and color mixing the strongest part of your art. Using the innovative Painter’s Compass Color Wheel we will learn how to make color measurable and quantifiable. Glen Kessler will start with an introduction on how this color wheel works and offer some brief demonstrations before challenging guests with enjoyable and educational exercises.

Learn how to work with watercolor washes to produce small vibrant paintings. Reference materials will be supplied.  Glenn will supply --

There will be a step by-step instruction demonstrations, and one-on-one interaction during the class.

Supplies:

Paints (artist's choice)

Palette

Small selection of brushes

Paper (artist's choice)

Water container

Paper towels

cover for table

No easels necessary.

We will be doing color studies only, not making a painting.

A Painter's Compass Color Wheel per person will be available to use throughout the workshop. At the end of the workshop they are to be returned or can be purchased for ($7).

Please pack a lunch and beverage. Light refreshments will be available.
