“Out of an Abundance of Caution”

The BWS Board is very cognizant of the effect that the coronavirus is having on the lives of people in our community, state, country and the world. We, like you, have been glued to the newscasts and re-accessing what we do on a daily basis. Already we have taken action to limit the possible exposure of our members to the virus by cancelling our Bus Trip to the AWS Exhibit in NYC on April 10th, earlier this week. The registrants are receiving a full refund of their registration fees.

Today we were in the process of accessing all of our planned events during the next months, to see what we needed to cancel, when we were notified that both the Howard County Center for the Arts in Ellicott City and The Gallery at Slayton House in Columbia are closing for the remainder of March and possibly extending into April. This affects several of our programs and as a result we are taking the following immediate precautions to protect the health of our members:

Current Actions

1)   The BWS Associate Member Show at Slayton House is Cancelled David  Drown will be in contact with all registrants and we will try to reschedule it with Slayton House for later in the year. Do not deliver your paintings on March 24th! The Reception is also cancelled on the 28th!

2)   The Aquaboard Workshop by April Rimpo on March 25-26 is cancelled and will be rescheduled with the same registrants when a date is available at HCCA. Sabine Yeager will be contacting all registrants to ascertain their interest in being on the wait list.

3)   The Color Theory Workshop by Glen Kessler at HCCA on April 4th is cancelled and we will try to reschedule it during the summer with the same registrants. There were 32 registrants and even if HCCA had been open, we already had considered postponing this one due to the large number of people involved and close contact. Sabine Yeager will contact all registrants and will work with Glen and HCCA to find a new date.

4)    The BWS Board of Governors meeting on April 2nd will be a Virtual Meeting like our February meeting with reports submitted via email. Any Board questions – please contact me.

5)    Stacy Levy “Painting Animals” Workshop on April 28th is cancelled and we will try to reschedule.  Registrants can elect to save their space in a future class.

6) The BWS Annual Meeting/Dinner at Turf Valley on May 28 is cancelled and may not be reschedule, but as this is a BWS election year, a ballot with a slate of officers will be emailed to you.

7) The Signature Artist Exhibition at Strathmore is cancelled. If it cannot be rescheduled at Strathmore, artists can elect to have their refund credited to the next Signature exhibit.

8) Mid-Atlantic Workshop Cancelled - Anne Abgott to be rescheduled for 2021.

Event ChangeThe Mid-Atlantic Exhibition - NOW ONLINE  The Exhibit has been moved online to be on display from July 1 through August 30. Registration openhttps://bws.wildapricot.org/event-3633015

In the meantime, please try to limit your exposure to crowds and follow the CDC’s medical guidelines.  We pray that the virus will abate and you will be back at painting workshops and congregating with friends in the near future. We will keep you appraised of any other developments in scheduling as this is a very fluid situation and changes from day to day. We thank you for your understanding.
