    Ted Nuttall 4-Day Workshop
Registrations opened On Saturday, Feb 7 and were filled before noon. Email Rob@TalbertFineArt.com to join the waiting list.

Girl In Motion by Ted Nuttall

The Baltimore Watercolor Society is pleased and excited to host Ted Nuttall in a four-day workshop from Monday, April 27, 2015 through Thursday, April 30, 2015 at the Hawthorn Center in Columbia, MD.

    PAINTING THE FIGURE FROM PHOTOGRAPHS

Although painting a person in watercolor may seem daunting, it is every bit as approachable as creating a still life or landscape. Ted Nuttall demonstrates the techniques, and instills the confidence to enjoy painting people. Ted will discuss the benefits of photographic reference, as well as how to interpret a photo in order to give life and energy to the subject.

In Ted’s daily demonstrations and presentations, he shares his personal approach to painting – plus he introduces the work of other artists with the objective of inspiring enriched seeing and thinking skills. What’s more, significant time is allowed for one-on-one instruction. In an atmosphere that’s both creative and supportive, Ted encourages, in each participant, a renewed enthusiasm for his or her art – regardless of their skill level.

    TED NUTALL BIOGRAPHY

A graduate of Colorado Institute of Art, Ted Nuttall is a figurative artist whose painting expression was born out of his observation of people. Ted is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, Watercolor West, Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, and enjoys Master Status with the Transparent Watercolor Society of America.

Ted’s paintings continue to win awards in juried exhibitions throughout the country. And his work has been featured in numerous national and international art publications. Most recently, he was a featured artist in both the 2014 Russian publication "Masters of Watercolor" and in the 2013 French publication “Pratique Des Arts”. Ted was the featured cover artist for the February 2014 issue of Watercolor Artist magazine. Ted’s work has been published in North Light Books', Splash 8 and Splash 10, and his painting "Whispering Smith" appeared on the cover of Splash 12.

    ARTIST'S STATEMENT

For as long as I can remember, I have been a fascinated spectator of human behavior – the quintessential people watcher. I naturally seek the unique character in everyone I encounter. Often, as I observe someone in his or her everyday environment, I am rewarded with a moment when a gesture or expression combine with the play of light and shadow.

A contemplative smile, hands cradling a book or carefully tying a shoe, a shadow cast by a pair of wire-rimmed glasses – and there occurs a pivotal instant when a story appears.
My paintings are an attempt to compose and thoughtfully record the nuances that transfixed these moments, these stories, in my mind.
    Matisse expresses the notion superbly:

“I do not literally paint that table, but the emotion it produces upon me.”

    Announcing:
    Laurie Goldestein-Warren
    4-Day Workshop

Registration Opens On Saturday, Feb 7

The Baltimore Watercolor Society is pleased and excited to host Laurie Goldstein-Warren in a four-day workshop from Monday, October 19, 2015 through Thursday, October 22, 2015 at the Hawthorn Center in Columbia, MD.

    ARTIST'S STATEMENT

I have been painting watercolors for fourteen years.  Art has always been a part of my life.  When I was young, ballet, tap and jazz dancing was my creative outlet.  I was a dancer in the Rochester Academy of Performing Arts dance troupe until the age of 18.

Later on my creative path took me to hair styling.  I opened my own salon in New York and competed in fantasy hair competitions.  I loved these particular shows because you had to create something never seen before, more avante garde than styles you would see on the street.

When I moved to West Virginia in 1998 and found myself  in the countryside, I went back to one of my first creative loves, art.

After many years of studying the art of watercolor with some fantastic teachers and mentors, I have been so fortunate to have found success in this field.  My artwork has been shown all over this country and was exhibited in China last year.  I now enjoy teaching my limited palette techniques in portrait workshops and jurying exhibits around the country.

I found my voice in art… find yours….Create!

WORKSHOP TOPIC AND FORMAT: DYNAMIC POURING

Laurie will teach intermediate and advanced watercolorists her approach to dynamic pouring.

The workshop will utilize a limited watercolor color palette along with acrylic paints in the same colors.  Using a limited palette helps students  expand their painting skills and learn to unify color harmony while still achieving a full value range and full spectrum of warm and cool colors in different saturations. Laurie will demonstrate pouring and a variety of finishing techniques, and she will work with students one-on-one to explore these techniques in their own paintings.

Students may use any subject for this workshop: figures, still life, floral, wildlife, landscape or any other subject.

    MATERIALS

Laurie's Recommended Material List and and advance preparation instructions will be posted here and emailed to registered students in advance of the workshop.

    WORKSHOP PRICE
